What is this glossary for?

It defines the operational terms used across a B2B manufacturing sales line, from price book and rate agreement to committed date and lot traceability, so buyers, sales teams and plant staff use the same words for the same thing.

Rate agreement

A rate agreed with a specific customer for a defined period, which overrides the standard price book while it is valid.

Price book

The approved rate for each product by customer class, region, quantity slab and delivery basis.

Feasibility check

A confirmation from the plant that a requested specification can actually be made, on available machines, within a workable time.

Quantity slab

A quantity band that carries its own rate, so larger orders price differently from small ones.

Delivery basis

Whether the quoted rate is ex-works, freight on board or delivered to the buyer's site.

Committed date

The delivery date the plant has confirmed against its current load and material position, not the date sales hoped for.

Job card

The shop floor record of a specific piece of work: what is being made, on which machine, and how far it has got.

Lot traceability

The ability to trace a delivered quantity back to the production lot, its inputs and its quality results.

Dispatch note

The document that accompanies material leaving the plant, listing what was packed against which order.

Job work

Work carried out on material owned by the customer, where the plant is paid for the process rather than the material.

Credit limit

The maximum outstanding value a customer may carry before further supply needs approval.

Specification template

A set of typed fields per product family that captures exactly what will be made, instead of a free-text description.

Approval gate

A point where a document or an action cannot proceed until a named person approves it, with the reason recorded.

Order review gate

A short check between a won order and the shop floor, confirming specification, price, material and date before production starts.

First response time

The time between an enquiry arriving and a human making contact about it.

Pending quantity

The quantity still owed on an order line after partial dispatches.
