Part supply is the norm in manufacturing, especially where the buyer wants material against a running project. The trouble starts when the order is marked complete because a dispatch happened.
Line-level balances keep it honest. Each line shows what is still owed, so the production board knows what to schedule and the salesperson knows what to tell the buyer.
It also prevents the familiar surprise where a customer calls about the remaining forty percent nobody had on a list.
